Transport

It is one of the great advantages of the city of Liberec that it is perfectly accessible by road. This will be extremely useful when Liberec hosts the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship in 2009 and World Cups in Cross-Country skiing, jumping and Nordic combined in the preceding year. It is only a bit over 100 km to Liberec from the capital city, Prague, by a dual carriageway. Accessibility from the capital city with an international airport will be appreciated not only by sports teams but also sport fans who will come to the Championships in Liberec by air from abroad. Existing good bus connection between Prague and Liberec will be strengthened by dedicated services during the Championships. Liberec lies close to the border and can be easily reached from our northern neighbours, from Poland and Germany. Within the city of Liberec public transport will be given priority over cars and shuttle services will link competition venues and the city centre. Accreditation of athlete teams, journalists and V.I.P. guests will take place in the Tipsport Arena in Liberec to which all of them will be directed. All other visitors coming to Liberec by car will be diverted to Park & Ride car parks.
To the Czech Republic by air
Prague Ruzyně Airport is an international airport situated 17 km to the north-west from the city centre. It is the largest airport not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Central and Eastern Europe. Prague Ruzyně Airport is served by about 50 airline companies which provide direct links between Prague and 103 international destinations. Terminal One has a capacity of almost 6.5 million passengers a year. Terminal Two offers increase in capacity to as many as 10 million passengers a year.
The link between the Ruzyně Airport and Prague city centre is provided by Public Transport buses no. 100, 119, 254 and no. 179. If you take bus no. 254 or no. 119 (they run every 15 or 20 minutes, the journey takes about 20 minutes) you have to get off at the final stop Dejvická where it is possible to change for the underground (the metro), line A (green line). You can also use bus no. 100 terminating at bus stop Zličín, which is also an underground station of the “yellow” line B, leading to the city centre (for example, to Můstek station). When travelling at night, there is a bus no. 510 (from midnight to 03.30) going from the airport to the tram terminus at Divoká Šárka, from which you can take a tram no. 51 to Dejvická station or further to city centre (Náměstí Republiky or Václavské náměstí – Wenceslas Square).
For a fast link from the airport to a railway station you can use the Airport Express, which links the departures and arrivals of super city trains SC Pendolino and Eurocity and Intercity high quality trains from Prague-Holešovice station. A special tariff of CZK 45 is applied on this service. The journey time is about 30 min.
Due to problematic services provided by some companies that run TAXI services in Prague, the FIS WSC Liberec 2009 Organizers do not recommend the use of taxi cars in Prague.
During the FIS WSC Liberec 2009, the Organizers will provide transport from Prague Ruzyně Airport to Liberec, the place of the Championships, for those teams of athletes that will have requested such service in advance.
From Prague to Liberec by car
From the Prague-Ruzyně Airport you can reach Liberec by a dual carriageway high-speed road which in some places has the same quality as a motorway. The road from the terminal at the Prague Ruzyně Airport links onto R7 high-speed road (going from Chomutov, via Slaný and Kladno to Prague), after 10 km it crosses the D5 motorway from Prague to Plzeň and continues across Barrandovský most (Barrandovský Bridge) over the River Vltava along the so-called “Jižní spojka” (South Link), some 20 km Prague bypass leading in south arch from west to the east. “Jižní spojka” is a critical point as far as regards traffic problems. Once you pass the turning onto D1 motorway (direction of Brno) the road continues towards east as the so-called Štěrboholská radiála and next as Pražský okruh. After several kilometres you pass the turning onto D 11 motorway (direction of Hradec Králové) and your road fluently links onto R1 high-speed road and then R10 (E65) and it leads in the direction of Mladá Boleslav and later Turnov. Before Turnov near Ohrazenice you take an exit to the right and link onto R35 road (E442) which leads to Liberec. The journey from Prague-Ruzyně takes about 2 hours, from the eastern border of Prague it takes about 1 hour.
From Prague city centre you can go by car in several directions that lead onto Jižní spojka “South Link” or later onto its continuation, namely “Štěrboholská radiála” or “Pražský okruh”, which follow after you pass a junction to Horní Počernice, later a junction to the city centre across Černý Most, along R1 and R10 in the direction of Mladá Boleslav, Turnov and Liberec.
The North motorway bypass of Prague is under construction now, however, it will not be completed before the FIS WSC Liberec 2009 in 2009.
