Editorial for September alias what have I done in the summer_

04. 09 2008

I get this question very often, whenever I talk to my family, friends or acquittances about my work in the Organizing Committee FIS World Ski Championship Liberec 2009. This is often followed by a peckish question if we shawl the snow in Vesec already, if it was freezing yet or if snow guns are in service. These are all after effects of merciless and unfair media campaign that we were facing during the World Cup preparations. This is all gone. Nevertheless we dealt with other issues in July and September. It may seem winter is remote, that Championship preparations are far away and we are at loose ends. But this is not true at all; in these days we are finishing with Championship adjustments.

Both sports venues Vesec and Ještěd are about to be finished. All members of the Organizing Committee have been working hard so that their sections are hole-proof ready for oncoming winter. Its highlight will be the World Championship indeed. First of many races will take place in October already and will be beneficial for OC members since it can serve as a rehearsal for the Championship or as a readiness check-up. Between 3rd -4th October Liberec will host summer Grand Prix finale at men’s ski jumping and also woman’s Continental cup in ski jumping. It will be a first appearance of bold women at ski jumping venue Ještěd and this should not be noteless. In winter itself we also have on the agenda ski jumping, cross country skiing and Nordic Combined continental cups.

In the Sports section that I run, we make a team that will take care of the Championship execution from sports and technical point of view. Namely we handle referees, technical delegates, members of race office and many more. The thing I find challenging is, that we have to make a team that consists of experts in three fields- cross country, ski jumping and Nordic Combined who will have to cooperate very closely. This is the main specification of our team. World Ski Championship is yet something completely different than any other skiing tournament. The total number of all members will reach 300. Each and every single one of us needs to know exactly what he is expected to do and what he is responsible for. All these conditions make the team set-up really challenging.

We also intensively communicate with the FIS (International Ski Federation) members, technical delegates and further concerned people just about every day so that races will eventuate smoothly in accordance with the rules. We all hope athletes and audiences will have an unforgettable experience. Our aim is to provide spectators in the venues and in front of TVs with great sports results and we hope everybody will enjoy the World Ski Championship in Liberec.

So what am I doing now_ Everything to be prepared when winter comes
