Telemark skiing, Prince of Norway´s style

25. 02 2009 21:00:00

(Liberec, own) Reaching the Crown Prince of Norway Haakon Magnus is not so much a matter of luck but rather of great patience. But the waiting was definitely worth it. The Prince immediately made up for it to the waiting press with his pleasant attitude and openness you wouldn´t even expect. He answered questions in English or Norwegian and with a pleasant smile he refused to take any credit for the success of the Norwegian team: “I am not a talisman of theirs; the boys have gained all the success themselves.”

* What would you say about today´s event_
It was fantastic today! We very much hoped the boys could repeat their success of yesterday when they finished in the first and second places. But it is terribly difficult to meet these expectations and under such a big pressure. We are so glad they have withstood the pressure. The finish was fantastic!

* Where did you watch the race from_
We stood on the tribune below the VIP building. It was a very dramatic race and I am very glad it came off for our competitors. It was an even race to the very last moment and watching the competitors in the finish area – this was an unrepeatable experience.

* How do like Liberec_
It is very nice here. Last night I had dinner with the Norwegian competitors and they spoke very highly about the organization of the Championships. In fact all people I have met here so far praise the organizers. Today, here in Vesec I managed to have a look behind the scenes to see how it goes. You know, we will be hosting the World Championships in Oslo in two years.

* Are you going to do some skiing here too_
I am afraid I won´t have enough time for that. But a couple of days ago I went skiing at home in Norway. Children had their spring holidays and so we set off for the mountains. We have a special sledge, you put your children in it, you bind a string round your waist and off you go. Of course, you don´t go that fast as the athletes in the competition today or not even that far, but it´s a pleasant way to be with your children in the open air and enjoy your free time.

* Are you a good skier_
Definitely not that good like those you know here at the Championships (he´s laughing). But I certainly enjoy skiing. Both downhill and cross-country skiing. Telemark skiing – that´s my style, you definitely know this style. But as I am growing older the more you will see me on cross-country skis.

* You have mentioned the World Championships which will take place in Oslo, Norway in 2011. How do you personally take part in the preparations_
I am a member of an advisory team. That´s also one of the reasons why I have come here. I want to see what we can expect. Apart from me there is another Norwegian team here in Liberec watching everything and I am sure they will bring home some important experience. I believe that we can also have successful and well-organized Championships like you. Norwegian people like skiing and they are great fans of it.  Well, you can actually see it for yourself even here.

Many thanks for the interview from Klara.
