Chappuis of France in the lead before the cross-country leg, Churavy is 12th

28. 02 2009 15:15:00

(Liberec, own) Lamy Chappuis of France won the ski jumping leg of the final Nordic combined individual event on the large hill in Jested with a jump of 131 metres today. He was to start the afternoon cross-country run almost half a minute ahead of Finnish couple of Koivuranta and Ryynaenen. However, shortly after the ski jumps Koivuranta gave up the race due to health reasons. Our athlete Pavel Churavy jumped 122.5 m and in the current 12th place he is 1:03 minutes behind the leading competitor.

The 22-year-old winner of the ski jumping leg Jason Lamy Chappuis could take another medal place at the Championships in Liberec after his bronze in the mass start competition. The current leader in World Cup ranking Anssi Koivuranta of Finland was to start second in the 10 km free technique race. He tried to cure his flu at the beginning of the week which defeated him in the end. His colleague Janne Ryynaenen will substitute him. Double champion from Liberec, Todd Lodwick of the United States spoilt his jump and he is in the 24th place, 1:38 minutes behind the leading Frenchman before the run.

Ski jumping on the Jested hill was affected by adverse weather. The competition was interrupted several times due to changing winds and snowfalls. In the end it was possible to complete the ski jumping leg after almost two hours. The first 14 competitors had to complete two jumps as Jury annulled their first jumps and lowered the inrun by four starting gates.

Pavel Churavy was best among the Czech competitors. He will start the cross-country run from the 12th place more than 1 minute behind. Ales Vodsedalek paid for adverse weather. He was the only one among the Czech skiers to have to repeat the jump and his second performance was 7 metres shorter. Landing at the marking of 117 m placed him in the 27th position and 1:42 minutes behind. Miroslav Dvorak will set off into the white trail seven seconds later and the last of the Czech team Tomas Slavik is in the 38th place, already 2 minutes behind the leading athlete.

The cross-country leg begins in the Cross-Country Ski Area Vesec at 3 pm.
