A Finn got lost in Hanychov

Even the sun came out to shine over the jumping hills in the morning but a flurry broke out after lunch and the Open Day visitors got a first-hand experience of snow hell.

The Medal Plaza belonged to volunteers today

While in the sport areas the final preparations are under way for the start of the 47th FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Liberec 2009 and the winners podium is still hidden, Dr. Edvard Benes Square came to life with the first social event on Tuesday.

Medals for champions arrived in Liberec

Medals in paper boxes arrived in the centre of the Championships in Liberec today. In the coming days they will be awarded to world champions in three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined.

Summary of Day Zero of the Championships

Only one day to the Opening Ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and  final preparations by organizers, athletes and their teams are in full swing in the Cross-Country Ski Area Vesec. Training was taking place on the jumping hills below Jested, however, weather conditions cancelled  training of Nordic combined contestants  in the afternoon.

An early evening photo report

esterday was a day in the name of moving the website editorial office. Volunteers from the Press Centre and others gave us a hand. However, before we managed to move all the computers from an office in the city centre to the Tipsport Arena and do all those cable work the system was out of order for several hours. It is pretty busy all around the Tisport Arena. All people seem to be carrying something; on walkie-talkies now and then someone calls for IT specialists to do this or that. In contrast to that, there are some sections that were working hard from early morning till late evening. Take the Race Office or the Accreditation Centre for example. In all places volunteers are working hard. The following photos want to bring you some snaps from behind the scenes...

Cross-country competitors will start the WSC with Qualification Races

Repeated questions of our website visitors regarding the qualification races make us repeat the information we already published on 30 October 2008. The qualification races for men and women, scheduled for 18 February in the programme of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Liberec 2009, are really a “novelty” from the organizers of the Championships.

Liberec 2009 reports: Everything is ready

Liberec has already been engulfed by skiing craze and the Organizing Committee reports that with five days to go to the start of the first competitions everything is ready for the big event which will be watched closely by all. “If the Championships were to open already on Saturday it would be no problem at all and we would be happy to start. Some minor details are being fine-tuned at the moment but these are minor adjustments of rather “decorative nature”. All major issues are 100 per cent ready,” says Zdenek Soudny, spokesperson of the Championships.

The sport areas will still open to the public before the Championships

Since Friday, February 13, that is 5 days before the start of the Championships, no more snowmaking has been taking place in the Cross-Country Ski Area Vesec. The snow cannons which were making snow from the moment of first freezing temperatures have fallen silent. The time remaining to the first competition start can be almost counted by hours and the area is nearly ready. Only the last details need attending to: fine-tuning the last technical points, and setting up large screens. Of course, the courses need to be groomed all the time to be really perfect. Since the start of the week Liberec has experienced snowfalls and winds so the technical services in the Cross-Country Ski Area Vesec have been pretty busy maintaining the area.
